
Dr. Tiiu Haamer was born in London, England, and immigrated to Canada as a child. She holds a Mus. Bac. from the University of Toronto, M. M. from the Eastman School of Music, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, where she studied with world famous pianist Gyorgy Sandor.
In 1982, Dr. Haamer joined the faculty of Grande Prairie Regional College in Alberta, where she developed a high profile as both a teacher and performer. Her concert tours extended across Canada to England and Switzerland. She was soloist with the Vancouver and Edmonton Symphonies and aired on CBC and CKUA as both soloist and chamber musician. In 1992 she moved to Edmonton and spent a year as music critic for the Edmonton Journal.
In 1999 she returned to Ontario and the following year was appointed Artist in Residence at Brock University. She has worked as a collaborative pianist and has also appeared as soloist with the Cathedral Bluffs Symphony in Toronto. She has many years experience as an adjudicator and clinician throughout Alberta and Ontario.
Tiiu has recently settled in Wallaceburg and has performed several times in Wallaceburg and Chatham as a piano/clarinet duo with Gavin Warren, Principal clarinetist of the Etobicoke Philharmonic.
Outside of music, she enjoys kayaking. Her other activities have included elite skydiving formations and animal welfare.
